Through the tongues - across the borders

Since a stay in China in 1997/98 we have been working at a series of writing-pieces in various countries, which are documented by photographs. As a preparation for this work we go through dictionaries, which give revealing insights into the way of thinking and the cultural background of the particular language areas. Selected sentences are differently displayed in unspectacular places, which we find on extended city walks. Whereas in some photographs we have exchanged or complemented the actual writings by our own writings, we have arranged a special scene for the moment of the shooting in others. As narrators and actors we appear ourselves in the picture.
