The 17 Party Congress of the CPC in Bejing is taking place during our
stay at Chengdu.
The opening speech of president Hu Jintao gives an overview on the
success and difficulties of the past period and maps out the programme
for the upcoming five years. Next to the economical and political aims
of the party, he also addresses important social topics.
To us many of his thoughts seem foresighted and welcome; however,
they are far from reality.
We read out the speech in full length in English in front of the city hall
of
the "Jin Niu" district.
